So from what I've discovered, there is a way to "win", but not how you would expect. Spoiler Alert, if you want to find it on your own.

If you do, in either order, boosted Hydrogen, then acid and then Helium, or acid, then Helium, then boosted hydrogen, the pilot will be completely stripped. Other than this, I can't figure a way to actually succeed, so I assume there isn't one, since combining helium and hydrogen yields the exact same results as normal hydrogen, and adding acid after anything else doesn't seem to do anything except waste ingredients.
